Worried False Negative

Hi, I am worried that I had a false negative. I took the biosure test in 2019, just about over 4 months after having sexual intercourse without protection, the test showed one line after 15 mins which indicates negative. Have occasional night sweats and white tongue since. is my result accurate?

Hi Father, This doesn't sound like a BioSURE HIV Self Test so it depends what window period this type of test has. Most self tests are second generation and have a 12 week window period. So I would recommend to get in contact with the suppliers of the test (unless it is us) to find out more. If your test was in fact a BioSURE HIV Self Test, then you would need to retest at 12 weeks for a conclusive result. I hope this helps. Kindest regards, Becky

i tested hiv negative using hiv type 2 self test 2 weeks after exposure, at 4 weeks i tested negative using the same type test, in week 7 i tested negative again. However my worry is that im experience general body malaise, abdominal discomfort, weight loss and experiencing some white patches in mouth since 3 days after exposure so im worrying im contracted the virus

Hi Anon05, The BioSURE HIV self test is conclusive from 12 weeks. If you have received a negative result around 4 months after your last possible exposure then your result is reliable and you do not need to retest. It is likely that the symptoms you are experiencing are related to something else, speak to your doctor if these persist. I hope this helps, Becky
