What antibodies does this test detect?

On researching, I had read that 2nd generation tests can only detect for IgG, but on reading:

Can cancer affect the result of the test?

Gary mentioned that this test also tests for IgA, is this true?

Does this mean that if we were at risk of an exposure 5 months ago, it could detect IgG as well as IgA?

Hi Unsure03 Sorry for not replying sooner. This one seems to have slipped through our net. The test predominantly picks up IgG class aanti-HIV antibodies very specifically to HIV. However, the test could pick up IgA, but again only if very specific to the HIV virus, and only if there wasn't IgG present. If the exposure were 5 months ago there would be very high IgG antibody titres and the test would detect these in preference to any other specific anti-HIV class of antibodies. I hope that this answers your question. Kind regards Gary Carpenter
