Test question

I thought I set my timer for 15 minutes but I later realized it did not in fact start. My test received a control line and the white is the test strip had cleared (the fluid seemed to migrate through). I am concerned that I am unsure of the total test time. This test is done after a brief encounter (2 minutes of unprotected heterosexual sex, I am a female, with a male who was flaccid the entire time). This encounter happened 6 years ago. I am now married, my husband has tested negative through a lab based test, and I have not had any other risk events.

Hi WC426, apologies for the confusion. You can be certain that your test has worked by the appearance of the top (negative line). This line can only appear if you have added enough blood and everything has been done correctly. The timing is not critical, but is set at 15 minutes, because although your test will run quicker, by 15 minutes the background discolouration that you see as your test runs, will have completely disappeared and the background of the strip inside your test device becomes completely white so it makes it very easy to see the line(s) and read your result correctly. There are lots of studies that have been done to see if the result changes over a period of time and all have proven our test to be very stable over a long period of time, however we recommend that you do not read your test result after 1 hour. I hope this helps. Kindest regards Francesca Bard, BioSure (UK) Ltd

Thank you. Then how can I be certain my test worked if I am unaware of how long it ran?

Hi WC426. After the 15 minute wait time, 1 line would indicate a negative result and 2 lines would inidicate a positive result, if there are no lines at all then the test has not worked. However these lines may not appear in a specific order. I hope this helps. Kindest regards Francesca Bard, BioSure (UK) Ltd

Thank you. So typically, the test line would turn red/ pink first, since it is closer to the bottom?

Hi WC426. Yes your test result will still be valid. The reason we say to wait 15 minutes is to ensure the background colour has faded and you can see a clear result. I hope this helps. Kindest regards Francesca Bard, BioSure (UK) Ltd

Can I rely on my result even though I'm not fully aware how long the rest ran?
