Do you advise testing?

Hi there,

I am a female who had unprotected oral sex and foreplay with an older man last November. We didn’t have any penetrative sex as we had no protection but I am concerned I could have caught HIV from this, is this at all possible? I haven’t tested within the last year as I didn’t think I was at risk however the nagging doubt is creeping in and I remember being ill all at the end of last year from after the exposure. I am having a blood test in January and I am terrified that I will get some bad news.
Do you think I could have got it from this exposure and do you advise testing?

Thanks.

Hi Slightlyworried. Although the chances of contracting HIV from oral sex are extremely low I would still recommend testing, we believe everyone should know their status. It puts you in control and will also put your mind at rest. Please remember that there is no bad outcome to knowing your status. I hope this helps and please don't hesitate to contact me further. Kindest regards Francesca Bard, BioSure (UK) Ltd
