Oral exposure

Had fellatio performed on me (with condom) 12 weeks ago by a woman from West Africa. Had a negative duo test come back negative after 25 days and a Biosure test negative at 72 days. Am I still at risk? I have ordered another test but terrified that the other two tests have given me false hope and this last test will be positive.

Hi Worried12, although oral sex does carry some risk, receiving fellatio whilst wearing a condom only has a very negligible risk, if at all. And even though we say you cannot definitely rely on a negative result until 90 days after exposure, this is because our test looks for antibodies to HIV rather than the virus itself, and everybody makes these at different times. By 72 days after exposure 99% of people have produced these antibodies (seroconverted) If it would help put your mind at rest, you can test again at 90 days but we really do not feel there is any need given your two negative test results following a very, very low risk exposure. I hope that helps and please try not to feel too anxious. Kindest regards Francesca Bard, BioSure (UK) Ltd
