My Self Test
I was quite irrationally terrified when my new girlfriend asked me to have an HIV test before going any further. I don’t belong to the higher-risk groups so I knew my risk ought to be very low, but numbers are one thing and actually having a test is another, as the imagination works overtime. Thank god I didn’t have to make an appointment, wait a few days, drive to a clinic, sit in a waiting room, go through all the rigmarole and wait to be told my fate. I just forked out for a test on Monday and it arrived on Tuesday and I did it there and then without anyone knowing except my girlfriend, and it’s clear – I knew it surely would be but I’m still extremely relieved.
