Just a question....

Hiya…. I recently did my test and it was negative but having told someone the anxiety and stress it had cause, was told this. My friend basically said I was mad to put myself through so much stress and anxiety over nothing as he is under the impression that we are routinely check for HIV if we ever go to A&E…… I’m not 100% convinced so thought I would ask you.

Thankyou.

Hi Thanks for your question. No you would not be routinely screened for HIV on admission to A&E. Unless you were lucky enough to be admitted at either Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals in London, where trials into the effectiveness of routine HIV screening on admission to A&E is being trialled. Their results have been very encouraging, and very probably all hospitals should do the same. Unfortunately they don't. I hope that this helps. Kind regards Gary Carpenter BioSure (UK) Limited
