How reliable?

I had sex with condom 1 month ago and i took the rapid test of HIV. My result was negative!. I would like to know How reliable is the test after 1 month?

Hi Diego, The rapid test looks for antibodies to HIV. If a person has produced antibodies then the test will detect them, but different people produce these at different rates. 50% of people will have made these antibodies by 4 weeks, whereas 99.9% of people will have produced them by 12 weeks post exposure. Therefore we would normally we recommend to test 12 weeks after your initial exposure. As you tested within the window period, we would recommend that you visit a clinic or retest after the 12 weeks.
