Hiv anxiety

I was stupid and unfaithful to my girlfriend – unprotected oral with someone of unknown status. This possible exposure was 11 weeks ago, thought nothing of it and continued normal relations with my girlfriend. 2 weeks later develop a rash, bit unwell, sharp pains around my body, muscle pain, joints seem to clicking all the time, lost a bit of weight….to top this off girlfriend has been having mirror image symptoms pretty much! Heads pretty much fell off from stress and anxiety! Now I’ve had 4th gen tests at 23, 33, 55, 70 days after that stupid exposure – all negative. Rapid ag/Ab test from finger at 11 weeks negative. The question is – if I got infected from that girl and have since passed it on to my girlfriend could we be just passing more and more of the virus to each other thus effecting the tests/ production of antibodies ? Killing me this is.

Hi Anxiety25. Sorry for the delayed response. I understand that this is a very stressful time for you and you have taken the correct steps by getting tested. I am unable to comment on the accuracy of these results as it is not a BioSure HIV self test however if you were infected and have then transmitted it on to your girlfriend then both results would be positive by 12 weeks. I would recommend going to a GUM clinic to get a full sexual health screen as your symptoms could be from an alternative STI or simply stress and worry. I hope this helps put your mind at rest and thank you for contacting BioSure. Kindest regards Francesca Bard, BioSure (UK) Ltd
