Help with anxiety please!

Hi, I had protected vaginal and performed unprotected oral sex with a sex worker about 4 weeks ago and I’m having major anxiety about HIV. I had some symptoms ie sore throat and flu like symptoms so took a test a few days ago which case back negative. Am I correct in thinking that if my symptoms were HIV related the test would have been positive? And should I retest after 12 weeks?

Hi YoungMale. I am so sorry for the delay in replying. The symptoms you have described could be related to many things are much likely caused by something other than HIV. You are correct in thinking that if these symptoms are related to HIV then the test would've appeared positive, however we cannot say that HIV is the cause. With the BioSURE HIV self test a positive result can always be relied on as the antibodies would've been detected however a negative test result can only be relied on 12 weeks post possible exposure. I would recommend testing again at 12 weeks to put your mind at rest. I hope this helps. Kindest regards Francesca Bard, BioSure (UK) Ltd

i think your flu illness is not hiv. Your risk was small. 4 week negative result is very good but biosureself test says on internet and in this site that for 100% sure results people need to make a test at 12 week after.
