Exposed to HIV with a sex worker

Hi, I was exposed to HIV with a sex worker and immediately the condom broke, she told me she was HIV+ but told me she was on Tribus medication. I was freaked out instantly and things got a little bit ugly between us. So the next morning I ran to my dr to explain what had transpired overnight, he ran a quick HIV test for me and it came out negative. So he immediately put me on something he called PEP. I took it as prescribed for exactly 31 days. But afterwards I started having Series of HIV related symptoms. 4 months later I did another HIV test and it was also Negative, but symptoms persisted for almost 13 months again. So just 2days ago I bought two biosure text kits and ran the first first as instructed on the pack and it came it clearly Negative, the next day I decided to try again and it also came out Negative. Please is it to be considered conclusive the I don’t have HIV? Cos I am still worried for some reasons. Thanks and I hope to get a response!

Hi Shane, I understand this has been a very stressful time for you and I hope that I will be able to help you put your mind at rest. The fact that she knew her status is a good start and she also stated she was on medication. You did the right thing by going to your Dr and receiving PEP (which might not have been necessary if her viral load was undetectable due to ARV's). Given the amount of tests that have come back negative it was very unlikely your result was going to come back positive (however I would not have been able to comment). After taking the BioSURE HIV self test 13 months+ after your exposure, I can confirm that your result is conclusive, your status is negative and most importantly you #KnowYourStatus. I hope you can put this expereience behind you and go forward making more informed choices. Kindest regards Francesca Bard, BioSure (UK) Ltd
