I ordered two tests : one which I’ve used and I want to keep the spare one for a test in around three months. The expiry date on the test reads 2018-08-04 can I read that as 4th August 2018? I asked a mate with a Chemistry PhD but he suggested I ask as it’s not a usual date format. Thanks.

The date format is year, month, day, so you are correct the expiry would be 4th August 2018.
