Better to know than to torture yourself
About 6 months ago I had Shingles and looked online to see what the possible causes were. HIV was listed as one of the factors to consider. I kinda panicked. The self-test allowed me to start my journey to addressing my health concerns. I made a commitment to act upon the result. I think this is a great STI testing development that, when combined with clinical tests, will help people confront their HIV status. My only advice would be to line up a ‘phone a friend’ should you get the result you weren’t hoping for. We all need support at challenging times and home testing needn’t leave people feeling isolated when they need help to quickly discover the networked of support and medical developments available to those who are positive – it’s not a sentence!
