Hi Anxious Potato Thanks for getting in touch. In the US the Centre for Disease Control recommends that every adult should be tested at least once, regardless of the number of partners. It is never too late to test. If you are HIV positive the test would detect the antibodies that the body makes to the virus. You can really only test too soon, i.e. less than 3 months since possible exposure. The test is supplied in an opaque grey mailing bag. The label on the kit does not even identify the sender let alone the contents. There is no way of knowing what's inside unless the bag is opened.
