After pricking an HIV patient

After pricking an HIV patient with a blood lancet, I mistakenly pricked myself with it am so scared have not been sleeping

Hi Debbie, this is not possible with the BioSure lancet (as they are single use only) provided however I will hopefully help put your mind at rest. If you are ever exposed to the virus again I would recommend visiting your GP to receive a form of antiretroviral treatment known as PEP (post exposure prophylaxis) within 72 hours. I would now recommend testing with a 4th generation test as these look for antigens as well as antibodies so would therefore be able to detect if infection has occurred sooner than a 2nd generation test (like the BioSURE HIV self test). Please remember HIV is a treatable condition and is nothing to worry about as long as you #KnowYourStatus, the scary thing should be not knowing.
