Accuracy of test results?

Should I be worried? I took 2 biosure tests 3 weeks apart, several years after potential exposure. They were both negative. However, on both occasions I realise I didn’t wash my hands before hand, and took the first drop of blood as sample (I didn’t wipe it away, which I believe you are supposed to do?). Also, on one of the tests I had I drop of alcohol, rum, beforehand to calm the nerves. I am thinking this has affected the results and I need to test again?? Please help!

Also, I heard about hiv2. Does this test for hiv2????

Hi Mrworried, Your negative results are conclusive as they were taken several years after exposure, any result 12 weeks post exposure is conclusive using a BioSURE self test. Not washing your hands before doing the test or drinking alcohol will not affect your result so you will not need to retest again. The BioSURE HIV self test detects both HIV1 and HIV2. Kindest regards, Becky
