Confidentiality in gp surgery
I was waiting in the reception area at my gp’s surgery and was able to hear every word of a receptionist’s phone call to another patient. She first checked the patient’s name and then gave her the result of a test that had been carried out. Whilst an open reception area has a nice feel to it and makes it easier for receptionists to communicate with waiting patients, it does mean that care needs to be taken when relaying sensitive health information over the phone. I wouldn’t want other patients hearing details of my test results.
