Person I slept with tested positive

Good day, I had symptoms like “dizziness, joints and muscle pain, headache, upset stomach,” and more after unprotected sex. I went to test in a clinic after 44 days – my test came negative. But I requested a person I slept with to also test, and she tested positive. How are the chances of me being positive too, after my negative results after 44 days ?

Hi Africa, Do you know which type of test they performed? Usually the tests done at clinics are fourth generation and have a window period of 4 weeks so it really depends on whether your result is accurate depending on the time since exposure. If your sexual partner tested positive and you had unprotected sex, there is a chance that transmission occured but it would depend on the window period etc. I would recommend to get a confirmatory test done with another health care professional just to be certain of your status. Regardless, please do not panic. Ultimately it is always better to test and to know your status. I hope this helps, if you have any other questions please feel free to leave them below. Kindest regards, Becky
