Hello, I slept with an HIV + partner, taking med. Myself I had a small discharge during the incident, 7days later stated pep
Today, 11.5 weeks after finishing PEP I used BioSure self test, result can negative. Is this result worthy enough to rely on?
Hi Maxcpt,
If your sexual partner is HIV positive and has been on effective ART for a long period of time, they are likely to be undetectable, given that they take the medication daily as supposed to. This is not to say you should not practice safe sex, but the virus is untransmissable once the HIV is virally suppressed. Additionally, PEP is meant to be taken straight away after a potential exposure. After 3 days (72 hours), it is said to be ineffective so I am unsure of why they gave you the course 7 days later. Regardless, the recommended period from ending any course of PEP or PrEP to using a BioSURE HIV self test is 12 weeks. So I would always recommend to retest again, even though your result is unlikely to change in half a week or so.
I hope this information helps, if you have any other questions please feel free to leave them below.
Kindest regards,
Becky
