HIV Rapid Test at 6 weeks and 8 weeks, both negative.

I had sex with stand girl and condom broke. She didn’t stop but i pull out after 30 seconds. After 6 weeks of exposure, I went to clinic to test (4th gen fingerpick) in SG and it is negative. I went to clinic after 8 weeks (3rd gen fingerpick) is also negative. But now 90 days after exposure, i had muscle pain and it is getting worse. Pls let me know my status. Is it conclusive after 8 weeks? This is only time i took risky sex and gonna be last. Couldn’t concentrate on work these 3 months. Looking forward to hearing from you soon. Thanks

Dear Tony J, it is highly unlikely that both tests you’ve had would be incorrect, however they are within the ‘window period’ (when your body makes antibodies to HIV) and there are a small percentage that seroconvert up to 3 months after contracting the virus. To put your mind at rest it is worth having another test, whether that is a self-test (please make sure it is an approved self-test, such as BioSURE as there are a lot of rogue products out there which are highly likely to give you a false negative result) or a clinical test. It is good that you feel positive about your choices going forward. Take care and thank you for getting in touch. Kindest regards Francesca Bard, BioSure (UK) LTD
