HIV 2 window period?

Hello. I had a sex with someone believed to be from Africa unprotected. I have read from many sources being exposed to HIV 2 has a 6 month window period for testing. Is this true or not? I have tested negative at 90 days using Biosure. Do I need to retest again at 6 months? I have really bad symptoms throat pain etc.

Hi, There is absolutely no clinical evidence to support that HIV 2 has a longer window period for testing. Our BioSure test detects both HIV 1 and HIV 2. If your result was negative at 12 weeks post exposure, this result is accurate and conclusive. You would not need to retest again at 6 months, your symptoms are most likely to be unrelated to HIV. If you are worried about your symptoms, you can visit your GP. Kindest regards, Becky, BioSURE UK Ltd
