Hello, In April I had sex with this girl and found out a week after that she's positive but I used protection the problem is I licked her genital and I'm scared that I might be infected, I went to the clinic and did some tests which came back negative 15 weeks after exposure but I'm not sure if the test is reliable or conclusive because I have exhibited a lot of symptoms that are related to HIV, like chills, headaches, fever but it only lasted 3days and some sores in my mouth and some pimples in my back and my face that leaves black spot when they have healed and still experiencing diarrhea I'm worried whether I have HIV or not. what should I do? thank you for your time.

Hi Hitman, Again, weight loss is not commonly a symptom of early HIV infection. In addition to this, seroconversion usually occurs 1-4 weeks after initial infection; this is the period in which most infected individuals experience symptoms. If you are still experiencing symptoms 10 weeks post exposure, it is most likely a sign that they are not related to HIV. Unfortunately you will not know whether your negative result is conclusive until 12 weeks if you are planning to retest using our test. You can alternatively do a 4th generation test now and a result would be conclusive however it is entirely up to you. I hope this helps. Kindest regards, Becky

Hello, sorry to disturb please, I forgot to mention this in my last question. I lost weight some weeks after my unprotected sex and also find out that my chest and back are hurting me. I also experience that my body sometimes is weak. so as I go for the HIV test and the test was negative, I now decided to test for typhoid and malaria which the result came back positive. but I'm still worried about the HIV please helppppp.

Hi Hitman, Is it great that you have taken the initiative to test following unprotected sex with a person of an unknown status/a new partner. The symptoms you have described are not commonly associated with HIV infection - most of those who are diagnosed with recent HIV infection experience flu like symptoms which usually last around 1-4 weeks after initial infection. If you have received a negative result at 10 weeks, this is a very good indication that you are HIV negative, however you must retest at 12 weeks using our test for a conclusive result. A negative result at 12 weeks is reliable and conclusive and you do not need to retest. I hope this helps to ease your worries, if you need anything else please feel free to leave a comment in the thread below. Thank you, Becky.
