Anxiety after watching 'It’s a Sin'

Hi, I’ve recently been having severe anxiety after watching ‘It’s a Sin’ about a possible exposure 8 years ago. I have done a biosure test that has come back negative. Would antibodies still be present after 8 years? Is my negative result accurate after 8 years?

Hi Anxiety02, It's a Sin has raised a lot of questions and worry about past exposures but at the same time, it has also raised a vast amount of awareness and conversation surrounding HIV and other STIs. It is great that you have taken the initiative to test for a past possible exposure that you might not have thought of as a worry before watching the TV series. If you were to have been infected 8 years ago, antibodies would have been produced in response to HIV infection and would remain in your blood until detected. Your negative result 8 years post exposure is extremely accurate and is conclusive - you do not need to retest. The fact that your exposure was 8 years ago would suggest to me that if you were infected, you would be close to having AIDS and you would be very run down and unwell. I am confident in saying that your negative result can be relied upon heavily and you do not need to retest. I hope this helps. Kindest regards, Becky
