risky encounter

I had a possible risky encounter 6 weeks ago. But just looking for some reassurance, I had a 5th generation test at 4 weeks and 5 weeks. And did biosure test at 4,5& 6 weeks all tests were negative do you think these results are conclusive? Thanks for your help

Hi Littleall, I am not an expert when it comes to alternative tests. I would recommend asking the GUM clinic that carried out your test for the accuracy given your exposure time. Kindest regards Francesca Bard BioSure (UK) Ltd

Hi Littleall, although the BioSure test is extremely accurate a negative test result is only seen as conclusive 12 weeks post exposure due to how the body works. As with virtually all HIV rapid tests, the BioSURE HIV Self Test looks for antibodies to HIV, rather than the virus itself. If a person has produced antibodies then the test will detect them, at 6 weeks 95% of people have produced these antibodies however at 12 weeks 99.9% have. You have done the right thing by testing however I would recommend re-testing at 12 weeks just to put your mind at rest. Kindest regards Francesca Bard, BioSure (UK) Ltd
