Was test reliable?

I took a biosure test a few days ago 9 and a half weeks after possible exposure. When collecting my blood sample I was struggling to get enough blood into the pipette and only half filled it. I have had this problem before and the test worked fine. However this time the control line did not begin to show up right away as it usually does, I had to press the pipette down further into the buffer pot for the control line to begin to show up. When it did show up it was not as strong in colour as it usually is, would you consider this test unreliable?

Hi AnxiousGirl96. As long as you have got a negative/control line your test has worked, as we say 'a line is a line'. If you would like to email me a picture of your test to confirm your result please do not hesitate to do so (fbard@biosure.co.uk). A negative result can only be relied upon 12 weeks after possible exposure as individuals produce antibodies at different rates. If you are going to use a BioSure HIV self test again I would recommend pricking the side of your finger (it is less painful and is generally easier to draw blood) and making sure your hands aren't cold as this could make drawing blood more difficult.
